Ukraine academic: Israel imported 25,000 kids for their organs - Haaretz - Israel News

Stories appearing on several Ukrainian Web sites claim Israel has brought around some 25,000 Ukrainian children into the country over the past two years in order to harvest their organs.

The claim, which was made by a Ukrainian philosophy professor and author at a pseudo-academic conference in Kiev five days ago, is the latest expression of a wave of anti-Semitism in the country. It comes a few months after a Swedish tabloid ran an article alleging that Israel Defense Forces soldiers have killed Palestinian civilians for their organs.

Jews, Israel and anti-Semitism have become a major motif of the presidential election campaign in Ukraine, with some figures making anti-Semitic statements and others condemning them. Some candidates, including a Jew and someone whose rivals claim is Jewish, blame a third rival - Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko - for bringing anti-Semitism into the race.

"Ukraine's political system is a parody of democracy," Russia's Chief Rabbi, Berel Lazar, said.

Vyacheslav Gudin told the estimated 300 attendees of the Kiev conference a detailed story about a Ukrainian man's fruitless search for 15 children who had been adopted in Israel. The children, Gudin said, had clearly been taken by Israeli medical centers, where they were used for "spare parts." Gudin said it was essential that all Ukrainians be made aware of the genocide Israel was perpetrating.

The conference, some of whose participants belong to a Slavic-rights movement, also featured two professors who presented a book blaming "the Zionists" for the Ukrainian famine of the 1930s as well as the country's current condition.

Many Ukrainian Web sites covered the speeches without putting them into context. In response to a request by the country's Jewish community Ukraine's police force is investigating ZUBR, one of the Web sites that reported the speeches.

Meanwhile, Ukrainians demonstrated outside the Israeli Embassy in Kiev on Tuesday to protest a letter signed by 26 Knesset members condemning what they described as anti-Semitic remarks by presidential candidate Sergey Ratushnyak. Protesters chanted "Ukraine isn't the Gaza Strip," indicating they consider the MKs to be trying to exert control over their country.

The letter, sent to Ukrainian leaders last month, articulated fear of a new "wave of anti-Semitism in the Ukraine that has come to a peak with the authorization of Ratushnyak, the current mayor of Uzhgorod, to run for president." In his mayoral campaign Ratushnyak blamed the Holocaust on the Jews, saying they stole German property, and warned of the same thing happening in Ukraine.

Although the protesters did not describe themselves as Ratushnyak supporters, photographs of the demonstration were posted on the candidate's Web site shortly after the protest.

Japanese food

At the end of every year , the lab held an end year party. Since I do not eat meat , they always serve me sea food.
Before I came to here I thought sea food means just fish and specific number of dishes. As we in Syria do not depend so much on the sea food ( except the coastal area of course). Actually I was wrong. I found that they have LOTS of dishes which can be prepared from the sea. Here are some pictures but sorry I can not remember the name of each dish , even more I did not try to remember as I will never be able to do so. The important thing that they all were soooooooo delicious , with the exception of the last dish.
I did not like it much although they confirmed to me that it is very high ranked dish in Japan. Do not ask about the prices. The first 4 dishes were served hot or warm while the rest were cold ones. By the way it is one of the rarest time they did not serve rice at the dinner. Enjoy!!!

Oysters
Oysters with Noddles
Crab
Shrimp with Vegetable
Fish
Whale meat with special shrimp.
Note the green and yellow mixtures. The green one is Wasabi which you put with the sauce in the left. The yellow one , I can not remember its name, you put it in the right sauce. I liked the yellow one more.
The whale meat is the red ones . It is really GREAT taste , although I felt some compunction as it is Internationally forbidden to fish whales.
Liver of a fish which grow far deep in the sea.
Lastly, every time I taste some Japanese dishes I really find it tasty. Please every one do not miss any chance to taste it.

International Day

This is another International day held in Tokyo in middle of Nov. Haitham was the one who organized the Syrian corner along with traditional clothes and lots of Syrian stuff that I would never expect that they exist here in Japan.
The Syrian embassy in Tokyo nicely provided the posters, the brochures and a CD about Syria.

So, thank you Haitham and thanks for the Syrian embassy.

International Day

Every year the Tohoku University Foreign Student Association held an international day. In that day around 33 countries around the world participate and show their own culture, mainly through the food. The huge communities here like Chinese, Korean and Indonesian also participate in traditional dancing group. Last year, I and some Egyptian friends here participated in that day in two tents. This year it was on Sunday the 29th of November. Again I and the Egyptian friends participated in this by two tents: Syria and Egypt.
In the Syrian tents we served Shawarma along with French fries and Basboosa prepared by the Egyptians of course.

One day before that day, we went and made dough (A'jeen) then we made the bread in the next day. Some Japanese volunteers helped us.

Of course for them it was their first time to do such thing. Since we do not have all the needed tools, we applies the Arabic saying ( AlHajja Um Alekhtra'a) , the inventions came because of the need, we used the frying pans to prepare the bread in it.

For the meat we used a flatting baking tin, on which I prepared the chicken.

Last year it was our first participating with Shawarma, at that time we sold around 315 meals out of 400 we prepared/were allowed to prepare. That made us in the fourth place behind Germany, China and Vietnam.
This year we sold "officially"374 meals out of 350 meals we prepared. Yes we prepared only 350 pieces of breads. Because a shortage of the A'jeen. During the day it self we finished all the 350 "breads" and still the people coming to us. So, I told the Egyptians to bring the rice from their tent (they sold only 248 meals) and lets start sell Shawarma with rice. By this step, we finished all the chicken we were cocked, finished the extra rice and chicken from the Egyptian tent.
When it was the time for seeing who sold more, we came in the FIRST place , Iran came second at 373 , yes just one meal, Turkey third 317 meals.
Actually, I saw people whom came to our tent last year, came this year seeking for the Syrian dish. One lady came to me asking if there is any Syrian restaurant in Sendai???? I said "Only me"!!!!!!
Another lady was in Syria and ate Shawarma there; she thought she will never be able to eat it again. "Oh My GOD, you were sent from GOD to me", she started to argue that she does not want neither the French fries nor the basbosa. Instead of them she wanted two sandwiches of Shawarma. Of course we gave her as she wanted. Both ladies were Westerns. During the selling time , I and another Egyption friend kept shouting ( irashimaseen, irashi ,shria no Shawarma tapetakudasai, ban wa coco de dakea ) and other statements. It was like a competition to speak slang Japanese.
The only thing that I wished to do last year and I did not do even in this year is to eat my Shawrama. I could not manage to "sneak" even one sandwich. Frankly, we did not have any free time at all. The selling starts at 11 AM and it should stop at 3 PM. Of course no one stopped at 3 PM, but for our case and since we do not have any thing to sell, even after the extra supply from "Egypt".
The reason why I said "officially" we sold 374 meals is because that we thought that we sold 400 meals and we stooped putting tickets in our box. The extra tickets we gave them to the Egyptian tent. At least ten tickets.
In the same time, I already prepared a poster containing pictures from almost all parts of Syria.

Most of our "customers" were eating their Sahwarma and watching the pictures. After I finished selling and started to have some free time I went through several talks about Syria with Japanese people. Actually they know nothing about Syria. They were surprised that the Silk Road was passing through Syria and Palmyra was a major city on that road. Some of them knew about Syria from the movie Kingdom of Heaven where our great actor Ghassan Masoud played the role of Al- Naser Salah Aldeen. Other people also knew about Syria from another movie they mentioned it to me but I can not remember.
In the next day, the main local news paper in Tohoku area published short news about the festival. The only picture published was for the Syrian tent showing some Egyptian friends.

It said: the chiken meat dish prepared by the Surian students in their tent was so popular.
Lastly, it was hard work really but now when I am looking for the result, in somehow I feel satisfied. At least I try to deliver a good image about Syria. I hope I succeed.

What should you do????

If your Qatar airways flight from Damascus to Doha was delayed and by that you missed the plane from Doha to Osaka.
Here I will tell you what happened with me early this September when I was in summer vacation in Syria.
After I checked-in in Damascus airport I noticed that the time for the flight was changed. Just after I checked in. So I could not go back out and spend some more time with the family. I informed Qatar Airways staff that I have a connecting flight to Osaka and there is only 3 hours waiting in Doha. They said it is OK. The flight will be delayed for 1 hour and half, so you will wait now only 1 hour and half in Doha.
Supposedly , the flight should leave at 14.40 from Damascus. We took off at 20.00 from there. The last 45 min we spent in the airplane .
By arriving at 23.00 Doha's time, I missed the Osaka plane (Left at 22.30), next one after 24 hours. So I went to the connecting flights disk , showing some angry, I told the staff there : I missed two plans now. Doha to Osaka and Osaka to Sendai.
With her yellow smile and shacking her head ( she was Indian) she said : No problem sir. We will give you boarding pass (tickets) till your final destintion.
-What is the route????
She said: simply, Now you will take Qatar airways flight leaving to Hong Kong, arriving 14.30 local time(9 hours) . Then , catch the Cathay Pacific airplane, leaving 15.45 to Nagoya (4 hours and a half). It will arrive at 21.30 Japan's time. Then , you will catch the flight from Nagoya to Sendai. Here was the problem.
No flights before 8.00 in the morning.
For your information, originally I should arrive my home at 19.30.
-OK, is there any hotel reservation in Nagoya????
-Wait moment sir!
Waiting...waiting...waiting
-Soooooooooo....
-Sir, can you go to that window they will help you.
At "that" window, a British lady from Qatar airways staff
-I have missed my plane to Osaka due to a delay in Damascus flight. I will go through several connecting flights which will take me to Nagoya(.......) where is no any hotel reservation.
-OK sir, just one moment and I will check....
5 minutes and new employee came , I get more nervous this time when I was telling him the problem. In the same time there was another American guy whom was shouting because of similar problem. Another British passenger whom were leaving to Ghana was having the same problem.( Flights delay) So it was like "Souk Khdra", every one shouting and Qatar airways staff running away and sticking inside.
The British employee came back saying: I am sorry , I can not do any thing for you.
The other employee also came back saying: sorry. I have called our staff in Hong Kong. I have asked them to check with Cathay Pacific if they can manage a hotel for you in Nagoya but also they failed.
-ARE YOU SAYING I HAVE TO STAY THE WHOLE NIGHT IN NAGOYA AIRPORT??????????
-Sorry sir.
At that time I could not control my self , I bit the counter strongly and left.
I went to check at what time the flight for Hong Kong. In less than 5 minutes, they called me again through internal call ( it was nice feeling, you are important).
When I arrived , I looked scowling, WHAT ELSE???
-Sorry sir, but we have another option.
-Which is???
-You can sleep here tonight, and leave to Dubai tomorrow in the morning, from there you will catch an Emirates airplane leaving to Seoul, then to Sendai. You will arrive to Sendai 12.30.
At that time there was a flight leaving to Dubai. I told him, there is another Emirates flight will leave to Osaka tonight if you can put me in that flight.
After several calculations , we found I can not get that flight. So I told him, put me in the flight leaving to Dubai now, and manage me to sleep in Dubai. ( I have some friends there). Of course he refused. Then I get angry again and I said I will go and sleep in Nagoya.
Actually , I thought that it should be a hotel in Nagoya airport, where I can stay for one night, and in case I could call my friend in Nagoya, I can spend the whole day there. ( Later I found he was in Syria also).
So by that I left to Hong Kong.
Frankly I was full of anger, I did not want to stay any extra minute in Doha.
In Hong Kong, when I arrived, the Qatar airways representative was waiting me at the gate of the airplane. He told me that they could managed a hotel reservation to me in Nagoya. He introduced me to the Cathay Pacific airways representative, which took me and finished all the matter.
It did not over yet. In Damascus I had around 35 kg weight in my case. For the Cathay Pacific only 25 kg is allowed for the economy class (even for Qatar airways) . So, I have to pay 70$ for the extra weight.
I should not paid that money, but I was in miserable and I just wanted to finish , so I paid them.
I told them it was OK on Qatar airways , but they said it is different carrier, sir!!!

At that time I should call the Qatar airways representative again and tell him that they have to pay for this , but I was exhausted and I just wanted this thing to be over.
So, in case any one of you had such bad flight , he knows now what is going to happen.
By the way, even in going to Damascus I went through bad situation which made me wait in Doha airport for 11 hours. Me and some Syrian friends, living in Japan, whom I met during that flight.
Another thing, during this , I saw two great airports. Hong Kong's airport is really BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIG and great. While I was in the air I managed to see some parts of Hong Kong, I liked it that I started to think why I should leave to Japan. I can stay for several days here.
Nagoya's airport is also beautiful and BIG . It is like Kansai airport , artificial island. But I think it is more organized and more beautiful. I am sure if any one will come to visit Japan through Nagoya airport he will get the correct impression about it. I liked it more than Kansai.
So, in case any thing happened to you like this, you know now in advance what is your options. Good Luck
